First up on pur itinery was a jungle walk so we all set off towards the jungle. Before we had even hit the jungle we had found a tropical idyll. Down a short, but steep, hill was a sandy patch with a waterfall next to it. Above the waterfall was a derelict little bridge. George named this little islandy bit The Republic Of Harris where the national food was sour apple gummy sweets.
The trek through the jungle was very steep at first through lovely green trees. We were heading towards the watch tower but we never got there, we managed to reach what seemed like the highest point though, which felt like a big achievement! After that we started to head downhill, after a stumble down a path which had tree roots that were just waiting to trip you up we came to a small clearing where we met fellow jungle explorers. These jugle explorers where a French father and daughter who had gotten lost and couldnt find the way to the temple, they had also managed to lose their wife/mum and we offered to keep an eye out for her.
After a quick debate on which way to go we reached a marshy bit. We all managed to get across with out that much mess apart from George. George decided he would just run across the mud and hope for the best, this resulted in a very muddy little boy. This entertained me for most of the journey back down the hill. At the bottom of the hill we made our way back to The Republic Of Harris where we spent a few hours in the sunshine.
Next was a quick refreshment in Tanah Rata and down to a tea plantation, which we werent able to actually have a tour around, but could still go and see the tea plants. According to mum they don't pick the tea by hand any more they use some kind of scythe machine. The last thing we did today was go to a bee farm for a free tour. This tour consisted of being shown to a hive with a glass panel. However boring this bee farm sounds it was kind of all right, there were a few posters with infomation which was very interesting and there was a shop that sold all of their produce and we ended up buying some raw honey and some strawberry and honey jam. I don't usually like honey but this raw honey was SO YUMMY!
And finally after a rest we headed up to Binchang for dinner. We ate in a Chinese restaurant where Mum, George and Dad had a steamboat, thats where there is a bowl of boiling broth and you plonk in vegetables or fish and wait until they are cooked then scoop them out and now we are just getting ready to go to sleep so we are all ready for our drive to Penang tomorrow.
Bye Bye for now,
Lily
Bees R cool! Glad you liked them. I would love to spend some time in The Republic of Harris it looks like heaven! My envy has reached new heights, but don't stop with the yummy updates...xxxMims
ReplyDeleteThe Republic of Harris looks amazing! All the photos are gorgeous and you are actually there!!!!! Breathtaking :) Enjoy xx
ReplyDeleteAnother great blog Lily - we too are jungle green with envy, envy of the cool in the Camerons you're enjoying, as well as everything else! As I write this it's 90F up here in the attic, too much! Glad you all emerged safe from the jungle - can be dangerous in there (tigers etc. and the sad tale of Jim Thompson who mysteriously disappeared after his little stroll!) Yummy Malaysian food continues to arouse our especial envy too!

Rather cruelly perhaps I have added a piccy of George in his pants surveying his kingdom and demonstrating rather amply the effects of 10 days of Asian makan. A very pleasant 24C here yesterday, back to sweaty heat today and a forecast of rainstorms too just like you guys! Haze is making a comeback as well but hopefully we will be far enough north of it not to suffer its effects. TTFN Maria xxx
ReplyDeletePS: All our blog photos were taken with the Ipad, the "proper" ones on my camera number nearly 700 so far - will bore you all rigid with them when we return - you have been warned!
Remember to download them onto the cloud while you are away just in case you get caught out in a thunderstorm. Looks like you are all having a great time you lucky things. Gordi
