The first thing we planned to do was go to the Petronas Towers. We went in, we got ready to get our tickets and we found out that the earliest we could get a tour was 4.15pm so instead we booked our tour for later and decided to take the "Hop On, Hop Off" tour bus instead. It was meant to have audio commentary in 4 different languages but unfortunately none of them worked. We spent about 2 hours on the bus trying to get an audio commentary that worked until we got to the Bird Park in the Lake Gardens. We had a walk around and we went past the place where mum used to have her swimming lessons.
Under the stifling sun we managed to get to the National Monument which was an amazing statue showing the Malaly soldiers fight against the Communists, surrounded by a deep blue moat. Lily was very hot and felt like crying. We wanted to get her an umbrella hat but we didn't :-(
Soon after we walked to a place selling crisps so we had to get some as we were starving. After our refreshments, we walked to Merdeka Square where the Selangor club is, apparently one of Grandpa's old favourites. It was opposite an amazing turreted building called the Sultan Abdul Samad building (see picture). We hopped back on the bus here and took the rest of the tour back to the Petronas Towers.
After a brief wait, we started our tour. Our first stop was the Sky Bridge which is the link between the two towers. Apparently if too many people go on it at the same time it falls down (Mum said). The views from here were spectacular, but not as spectacular as those on the observation deck on the 86th floor 370 metres up.
Once we'd had our fill of the views we left the Petronas Towers and walked down Ampang Road to catch the monorail to Bukit Bintang where we got dinner. Dinner was in a cafe in a Mall. I had Laksa which is curried soupy noodles and it tasted spicy and delicious.
Now we are back at the HFH (Hellhole From Home) doing this post with an ice cold bottle of water to cool me down. Bye for now,
George.
We love this blog George, and feel we are there with you in spirit! After your Mum's advice about the walkway between those towers, there's no way I'd have stepped onto it. V envious of your laksa - one of our very very favourite things. Did your Mama explain that your ancient grandparents were actually married in that turreted Secretariat building opposite the Padang? We loved Lily's Melaka blog too. Lots of love, G'ma & G'pa.
ReplyDeleteGreat entry George, I love the way you write! Soooo jealous of you right now. Looks like your Ma has taken after Grandma with her anxieties about things like the Sky Bridge. Has she started 'Whooop!'-ing yet?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear what you guys get up to next, this is such a lovely way to brighten up my day! xxxx Mims.
