Day 11 - Cameron Highlands to Penang

I loved the Cameron Highlands.  All of it. So I was a bit sad to leave, but after a stodge filled breckie I felt that GEORGETOWN (!!!) could be really cool.  So after a long ride and half a bag of Nips ( the M and M like sweets!) and a Kickapoo  I was really excited.

The drive was around 4 hours long and was very twisty and turny for the first couple of hours.  I had less sicky feelings on the way down because I sat in the front of the car and helped Dad to change gear.

As we approached Penang Island we had to cross a very long bridge.  Everything was covered in a hazy mist which mum says is from the jungle fires in Sumatra.  When we arrived the hotel looked cool and very fancy, even with the  apple-y/cheesy window cleaner's soap he was splattering all over the lobby windows.

After getting settled we thought we would go to the pool. What a good idea!  The pool here is extremely deep and surprisingly warm.  Me and mum spent ages in the outside jacuzzi having aback massage from the bubbles.  After we'd cooled down we went up to our rooms and got ready to go out.  We thought we could walk to the place where we wanted to eat but the first place we went to was shut so after a 20 minute aimless wander we decided to go back to the hotel to get a taxi to Gurney Drive Hawker's centre which was an outdoor food market selling all types of peculiar substances.

Dad ordered us 4 bowls of very fishy Laksa which I "enjoyed" so much so that I gave it to Mum and then ordered myself some satay instead.  It was so nice with loads of peanut sauce.  Lily didn't enjoy her Laksa either so she ordered some deep fried objects that unpredictably came smothered in processed peanut sauce and chopped up cucumber and other undescribable stuff.  After dinner we went to a shopping mall to get waffles which I've just finished off back at the hotel.

(Lily's weird plate of thing)

See you later

George (with the help of Mum)

  1. Not such a drool-worthy entry in the Harris Holiday Blog, but good reporting nonetheless! I have come to anticipate your updates eagerly! You might have to stay there forever to keep me satisfied with my daily SE Asia fix!

  2. No, definitely not so yummy today George but you can't go wrong with satay can you? Penang also famous for yumbo spring rolls, we recall. Are you going to the snake temple, Khoo Kongsi, or up the funicular to the Peak? Like Mims we are vicariously enjoying every adventure and (almost) every item of makan encountered as you make your way up the Peninsular!
